Personal life:

My favorite place

My name is Wahso Oo, but my friends call me Jetski. I am Karen (Knyaw) by ethnicity, and I was born in a Thailand refugee camp. When I was six years old, my parents enrolled me in a border school outside the refugee camp. Despite the challenges, my time at the border school proved to be a turning point in my life. Initially, it was a challenging experience, as I had to adapt to a new language and didn’t get to see my family.

However, I persevered and continued my education. When my mother decided to relocate to the United States 5 years later, I had to return to the camp. After years of waiting, my family and I finally received the news that we would be moving to the US. In 2012, we arrived in America, but unfortunately, my big brother and big sister, both of whom are married, still live in Thailand with their children. Although I was excited to start a new life in America, leaving behind my siblings and their families was tough. When I first came to America, I didn’t speak a word of English, and I had no friends. Adjusting to life in the US was difficult, but I was determined to succeed.
